International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop and educate young people to show solidarity, be informed and foster eagerness to expand their knowledge and their ability to contribute to a better and more peaceful world in the framework of mutual understanding and intercultural respect.

In order to achieve this goal, the organization collaborates with schools, governments and international organizations to create and develop demanding international education programs and rigorous assessment methods. These programs encourage students to take an active attitude in their lifelong learning, to be compassionate, and to understand that other people, with their differences, can also have well-formed and opinions that are worth listening to.

The Lestonnac School in Barcelona is a combined religious, humanist, progressive and democratic educational centre that defines itself as a Catalan school. The centre was founded in 1650 to work for the comprehensive education of girls and was the first institution founded in Spain for the comprehensive education of women. In addition, the center belongs to the Company of Mary, an international Christian humanist educational institution, founded in France in 1608 by Joan of Lestonnac and which currently has students in almost a hundred centres around the world (it has a presence in 26 countries across 4 different continents). The main goal of this institution is to comprehensively educate its students and promote a global cosmopolitan identity that allows them to observe the world critically from different realities and cultures to improve it, taking on a role as agents of transformation and change that we want them to be.

The philosophy of our center is perfectly in line with the pillars and fundamental objectives of the International Baccalaureate and gives as much importance to giving good knowledge to our students as to training them as people with their own values and critical opinions about what happens in the world we live in.

With the International Baccalaureate, we offer studies that can be taken simultaneously with those of the LOMCE (Spanish Law of Education)  Baccalaureate and that promote a profile of students with an open and international mentality. We want to train citizens who are directly involved  in culture, language and their own learning process and who, therefore, have a cultural awareness and a sense of identity, while also stimulating their curiosity and desire to discover the enjoyment in learning about the reality around them and the other cultures and languages found in our world. We strive to work on academic skills as well as communication, empathy, assertiveness, emotional control and problem-solving skills. We do all this  by delving deeper into the social values that help us understand the world around us.

Considering this mission, the aims of our International Baccalaureate are the following:

  • Foster comprehensive and high-quality all-round education
